Jayden Hardaway, born on July 16, 1999, is the son of Penny Hardaway. Penny now coaches the men’s basketball team at the University of Memphis. Jayden plays for his dad’s team and wears the same jersey number his dad wore when he played in the NBA.

Jayden has overcome a lot to play college ball. He dealt with autism as a kid. His dad calls him a “walking miracle” for how far he’s come. Jayden grew up in Miami with his mom.

At 6’5″ and 195 pounds, he’s got a strong presence as a guard. Under his dad’s coaching, Jayden keeps getting better. A big moment was when he started his first game against UConn. His dad said it was a special game because it was for Autism Speaks.

Before college, Jayden went to high schools in Miami and Memphis. He also spent a year at IMG Academy. In 2018, he decided to commit to Memphis Tigers to play for his dad and reach his full potential.

At first, he wore #25 like his dad did at Memphis. Now he wears #1, which is what his dad wore in the NBA. Jayden keeps working hard and getting better with the Tigers.

Jayden stays active on Instagram (@jhardaway01) where he shares stuff about his life and basketball career.

Ashton Hardaway

Ashton Hardaway is starting to make a name for himself in college basketball. He’s carrying on the legacy of his dad, Penny Hardaway.

Ashton is a freshman forward who is 6’8″ and 210 pounds. His skills on the court have earned him a top ranking as a 4-star recruit. He’s considered one of the top 124 players in the country. This shows his big potential as a key player for the Memphis Tigers.

In high school, Ashton had a stellar career. During his junior year at Duncanville High School in Texas, he was a big part of leading his team to an incredible 35-1 record and the #1 ranking in the state. Ashton helped secure their third 6A state title in a row, proving he could contribute at a high level.

After that, Ashton transferred to Sierra Canyon School. He joined other high-profile players like Bronny James and Justin Pippen. There, he kept developing his skills. He got to showcase his abilities during a tour in Europe with games broadcast on ESPN.

For college, Ashton chose to sign with Memphis Tigers for the 2023-24 season. He picked them over big programs like Kansas, Texas Tech, USC, and Oklahoma State.

His dad Penny Hardaway is thrilled Ashton committed to Memphis. He praised his elite shooting, high basketball IQ, and improved playmaking. Ashton’s choice continues the Hardaway legacy. It also shows his trust in his dad’s guidance to develop his full potential as a player.

In addition to his promising basketball career, Ashton Hardaway is also active on social media. There, he shares stuff from his life and sports journey. If you want to keep up with Ashton’s personal and pro updates, you can follow him on Instagram (@ashton.hardaway).

Who are Penny Hardaway’s Daughters?

LaTanfernee Hardaway and Layla Hardaway.

LaTanfernee Hardaway

LaTanfernee Hardaway

LaTanfernee Hardaway was born on July 30, 1992. As Penny Hardaway’s daughter, she’s an entrepreneur and social media star. She owns LHXCollection, a jewelry business for pendants and necklaces that she promotes on Instagram (@tanfernee).

LaTanfernee is close with her sister Layla and half-brothers Jayden and Ashton.

LaTanfernee had some tough times growing up. Her parents had a painful split when she was 8, with abuse allegations that eventually got resolved. Despite the challenges, LaTanfernee has succeeded in her own pursuits, gaining popularity through her dad but also her business and social media work.

With a reported net worth of $6 million, LaTanfernee has done really well with her business. She finished college at age 22. In her personal life, she’s dating Ray Chesterfield II, and they welcomed their baby boy on July 18, 2022.

Layla Hardaway

Layla Hardaway was born in 1995 to Penny Hardaway and his former partner Latarsha McCray.

Unfortunately, her parents split up when Layla was about 5 years old after her mom filed a domestic abuse case against Penny. It seems Layla and her sister were raised by their mom after the separation. Penny was ordered to pay child support.

Layla keeps an extremely low profile. There aren’t really any public details known about her education, career, or personal life. She doesn’t seem to have any social media presence either, so it’s hard to learn much about what she’s up to or if she’s dating anyone.

Even though there aren’t many public details, it’s hoped Layla is living a happy, comfortable life away from the spotlight on her dad. Her name Layla has ancient Arabic and Hebrew origins meaning “night” and “dark,” often symbolizing innocence and psychic powers.

Penny Hardaway Children Carrying on the Legacy

It’s evident Penny Hardaway has been a huge influence in his kids’ lives, particularly when it comes to their career choices and involvement in sports.

As a legendary basketball player and coach, Penny has inspired his sons Jayden and Ashton to follow in his footsteps on the court. Seeing sons play for the Memphis Tigers, the very team Penny coaches, I can imagine the proud dad moments they must share.

Penny has probably been there supporting Jayden every step of the way as he overcame challenges like autism to reach the college level. That shows the kind of encouraging environment Penny aims to provide.

With Ashton, Penny’s youngest, you can also see the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Ashton has blossomed into a standout high school player and top recruit choosing to play for Memphis under his dad’s guidance. It’s clear he respects Penny’s knowledge and experience to help refine his skills.

As a father, Penny seems to blend personalized advice with professional mentoring to boost his sons’ athletic pursuits. In this way, he establishes a family legacy in basketball built on hard work and passion for the game.

While Penny’s influence on his daughters Layla and LaTanfernee is more behind the scenes, there’s no doubt his values and accomplishments as an athlete and role model dad have shaped who his children grow up to be. He inspires them to dream big!
